CTAL-TTA is an ISTQB Advanced Level module designed for testers working in Agile teams who focus on the technical, hands-on side of testing — things like test automation, continuous integration, and technical risk analysis. It sits alongside CTAL-TAA (Agile Test Analyst) as one of the two specialist Agile tracks under the Advanced Level scheme, and it validates that a tester can plan, design, and implement automated and technical testing activities within Agile delivery.

This course is built for testers and QA engineers who already work in Agile or Scrum teams and want to move deeper into the technical side of testing — automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, technical debt, and non-functional testing. It's also a strong fit for automation engineers who want formal recognition of their skills, and for developers-in-test who want a certification that speaks directly to their day-to-day work.

You need to hold the ISTQB Foundation Level (CTFL) certificate. Most candidates also complete the Agile Tester Extension (CTFL-AT) beforehand, since CTAL-TTA builds directly on Agile testing fundamentals. Practical experience working in an Agile team — even 1-2 years — makes the material far easier to apply, though it isn't a formal requirement to sit the exam.

The syllabus covers Agile software development from a technical tester's perspective, including: test automation strategy and implementation, technical risk identification, testing in a CI/CD pipeline, exploratory and non-functional testing, and how technical testers collaborate with developers throughout the Agile lifecycle. It's less about writing test cases and more about engineering quality into the build itself.

Graduates typically move into or strengthen roles such as SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test), Automation Engineer, Technical QA Lead, or Agile Test Engineer. It's also valuable if you're aiming for a QA Architect or Test Automation Lead position, since those roles increasingly expect Agile-native technical testing knowledge, not just manual test case design.

Yes. ISTQB certifications are recognized across 100+ countries through the ISTQB's national board network, which makes CTAL-TTA a portable credential if you're job-hunting outside India or Italy, or working with distributed teams

Many learners pair CTAL-TTA with PSM I (Professional Scrum Master) or with our AI Skills for Scrum Masters track, since technical testers who also understand Scrum facilitation and AI-assisted workflows tend to stand out for senior QA and test-lead roles.
